  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups panko crumbs
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour for about a minute.
  4. Gradually add milk and cream, whisking until smooth and bubbly. Add salt and pepper.
  5. Stir in the cheeses until melted and creamy.
  6. Combine the pasta with the cheese sauce until well coated.
  7. Layer half of the mixture in the baking dish, sprinkle with cheese, then add the remaining pasta.
